Virgin Mobile USA announced today that if you bring your eligible existing iPhone to their “Inner Circle” plan and transfer your number you will get 1 year of unlimited talk, text, and LTE data on Virgin Mobile’s nationwide network for $1. This announcement is an improvement to their June 21st press release of 1 year of service for $1 with the purchase of an iPhone. You can still take part in the June offer if you would like to buy an iPhone from Virgin Mobile. An iPhone 7 is still full price, but examples of discounts on older models are the iPhone 6 32GB for $320 and the iPhone SE 32GB for $280. If you purchase an iPhone you can switch carriers after one year and keep the phone.
Here is the link to Virgin Mobile’s Bring Your Own Device Inner Circle promotional page. The following iPhones are listed as compatible:
- iPhone SE
- iPhone 6
- iPhone 6s
- iPhone 7
- iPhone 5s
- iPhone 6 Plus
- iPhone 6s Plus
- iPhone 7 Plus
After you have ensured your phone is compatible go to the bottom of the page and check your eligibility by entering your device IMEI number, phone number, and zip code. Next you order a SIM card which will be shipped to you. The SIM card is free until Friday, September 29, after which the kit is $25.
The mobile hotspot tethering is an extra $10 per month and data de-prioritization begins after 23GB each month. Once the first year is complete the bill will automatically go up to the standard Virgin Mobile unlimited price of $50 per month. Virgin Mobile utilizes the Sprint network so make sure you would receive coverage where you use your cell phone regularly.
This is a great deal saving each person around $900 in one year if you currently have Verizon or AT&T. If the Sprint network has good coverage in your area this deal is almost a no-brainer. I will personally not be enrolling in this offer since I have a cheap grandfathered family plan from Verizon (which has superior service in my area).
